OPEN HOUSE

The Hanover League of NH Craftsmen—both the Gallery and CraftStudies—is delighted to invite you to join us for an Open House.

The Gallery will be open from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday, November 8th and Sunday, November 9th. In addition to the splendid collection of craft work from over 300 local craftspeople, we will be featuring the ceramic work of Ursula Fries-Herfort.

Ursula Fries-Herfort will be in the gallery from 2pm to 4pm for the featured artist's reception. Please note that Ms. Fries-Herfort is teaching a short workshop on her technique on Sunday, November 9th from 10am to noon.

CraftStudies is offering the following array of open studio time and mini-workshops.

Glass Fusing

If you love the look of glass and are interested in learning how to melt glass in a kiln, this fun, hands-on class is an ideal place to learn some basic processes. We begin with glass cutting and end with several projects, including a sun catcher, dichroic pendants, and layering inclusions in the glass for visual effect. We will cover glass technology, tools and many creative techniques. All materials and supplies are included.

Tea Pot Making Demonstration

Ara Cardew, of the famed Cardew family will make one or more teapots using the potter’s wheel.

Metal Studio in Action

 

Saturday, November 8, Noon-5pm. Free

This is an opportunity to visit an operating metal studio and to watch both students and instructors using a variety of tools and equipment to make jewelry and other metal projects.

Surface Impressions

Experiment with surface impressions—stamps, imprints, texturing. We will have some simple cylinders and flat sheets of clay to play with. No finished products, but lots of fun.

Slip-Carved Tiles

Sunday, November 9, 10am-noon. $25

Learn several ways to decorate clay by working on prepared, leather-hard tiles. Draw, carve, create patterns and relief—let your imagination guide you. You will decorate one tile that will be glazed and fired for you to pick up at a later date.

Working in copper and silver you will learn how to transfer patterns onto metal, earrings assembly and finishing techniques.

Mug Workshop

Tim McCosker

 

Sunday, November 9, 2-5pm. $25

In this 3-hour workshop you will design and create a mug using the versatile slab hand building technique. You will learn to make the body of the mug, the handle and refine the rim and foot in preparation for firing. You will be able to be able to pick up your finished mug 3 weeks after the workshop.
