Barbara Lane

After 30 years of hand building functional pots, Barbara Lane is still exploring what it means to be in a collaborative dance with clay.   Hand building offers her opportunities to texture, tear, paddle, overlap, and play with techniques that lead to unexpected and marvelous results.

She is inspired by rhinoceros hide, seashells, views of Earth from space, Mayan ruins, southwestern red rock…

She often knows how she will glaze a pot, when she is choosing her clay and deciding what kind of pot she is going to make.   She has been creating, adapting, and tweaking mid-range glazes for firing in an electric kiln for more than 25 years.

And she has been teaching and facilitating potters in developing their ideas and skills for 20 years.
