Dyeing with Mushrooms

  • CraftStudies Studio & School 87 Maple Street Hartford, VT, 05001 United States (map)

Saturday, September 17, 2025 | 10A - 1P | One-day workshop | $100

The Fungi kingdom is home to myriad fantastic species, many of which contain rich pigment suitable for dyeing natural fiber and textiles. In this workshop, we'll prepare a variety of wool, cotton, and silk fabric and yarn for dyeing, make colorful dye baths with a selection of locally foraged mushrooms, and explore bundle-dyeing techniques with foraged plants as well. You'll learn the fundamental techniques for successful natural dyeing, how to identify and collect some of our regional dye plants and mushrooms, and go home with an assortment of materials to use in future sewing, knitting, or other fiber projects.

If you would like to bring some of your own personal fiber to dye in class, please get in touch with Emma (emmapercy@proton.me) for instructions on how to prepare it ahead of time for dyeing!

Supplies: $30 materials fee payable to teaching artist
