Learning how to set gemstones into metal jewelry is an essential skill of becoming a jeweler. The bezel setting is the most foundational of settings. Bezels are thin strps of metal that completely encircle a stone to hold it in place and attached. Through the use of basic metal fabrication techniques, students will learn the principles of setting cabochon gemstones into various jewelry pieces. Using basic metal fabrication techniques students will create a bezel set ring, pendant, or a pair of earrings. Skills including measuring, fitting, soldering, setting, and finishing will be taught. Students must have basic soldering experience to take this course.
Prerequisite: Prior experience with one of the Welcome to the Studio classes or equivalent is recommended.
