Explore the magic of cyanotype printing! In this single-day you’ll learn the process of and techniques for cyanotype printing. Experiment with a variety of botanical items on both paper and textiles, and walk away with several self-designed prints, plus your own printed tote bag.

Dyeing Wool Roving

Learn the basics of dyeing! Start with a short discussion of color theory and dyeing safety. Then the fun begins! We will be dying wool roving using chemical acid dyes. You’ll end up with enough dyed roving to do a little playing at home, plus some to use in the Spinning with Color workshop offered separately, on August 16, 2026.

Intro to Spinning (IN PROGRESS)

In this 3-part class, you’ll learn the basics of hand-spinning yarn. We will start out learning how to draft the fiber and then spin it into yarn. Over the three classes you will learn how to ply and set your yarn.
We’ll briefly touch on parts of the wheel and wheel maintenance, different ways to prepare fiber, different types of wool, and different techniques for spinning. There will be time for you to practice between classes and come back with questions!

Botanical Perfumery

Discover the art of botanical perfumery with Bloom Lab botanical perfumery! At this 2-hour workshop you will learn the basics of perfumery while creating your own custom botanical Eau de Parfum that is hand-blended to reflect your unique personality. It's part art, part science, and a whole lot of fun and self-discovery! For anyone interested in perfumery or simply enjoying good company while trying something new.
This class is designed for students ages 16+. Students ages 8–15 are welcome to join, but must be accompanied by a adult caregiver. Both the student and caregiver must register.

Spinning with Color

Learn to spin and ply a few different ways in order to control how color appears in our yarn. We’ll explore how to spin combo, flipped, blended, and fractal yarns, plus what makes yarns more vibrant, or more muted, or blended through spinning. It is encouraged, but not required, to use roving created in the Dyeing Wool Roving workshop, offered separately on July19, 2026.

Paper-making with Plants (2 SPOTS LEFT!)
Saturday, August 22, 2026 | 10A - 12:30P | One-day workshop | $75
Learn how to make beautiful handmade paper out of plant fibers, recycled scrap paper, and flowers! We will go through the traditional western-style hand papermaking process step-by-step: understanding different types of fiber, how to source and process fibers, making pulp, forming sheets, adding decorative inclusions, and pressing and drying the sheets. Everyone will make several pieces of paper to use for their own art and craft projects, for writing letters, or simply to appreciate as art in its own right. You'll also learn strategies for making paper at home in a relatively small space without the need for much specialized equipment. Please wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet!
Supplies: $20 materials fee payable to the Teaching Artist on the day of the workshop.

Whether you are primarily a hand-builder or your passion lies in throwing on the wheel, this workshop will teach you to incorporate colored clay into your creative process. After discussing safety concerns and other practical concerns, and a demonstration of how to mix your own colored clay. We will look at traditional nerikomi patterns, how to build and inlay canes, and how to use colored clay when creating coil pots. Those interested in throwing will explore both agateware and nerikomi as it applies to the wheel while hand-builders will have the opportunity to create using the techniques explored.

Cold-processed Soap-making (1 SPOT LEFT!)
Saturday, July 25, 2026 | 10A - 1P | One-day workshop | $100
Spend a slow, hands-on afternoon learning the craft of cold process soap-making. In this workshop, you’ll be guided through the full process, from working safely with lye to blending oils and bringing a batch to trace.
We’ll move beyond the basics and experiment with natural pigments and aromatics—botanicals and essential oils—to create a loaf of soap that reflects both material and intuition. You’ll learn how to build color, layer scent, and understand how these elements behave in the chemistry of soap.
Each participant will make and take home their own loaf (to be cut and cured over time), along with the knowledge and confidence to continue the process on your own.
Note: Cold-process soap takes 24–48 hours to harden and 4–6 weeks to fully cure.

Broom Casting
Saturday, July 18, 2026 | 2 - 5P | One-day workshop | $50
Pour molten silver over straw brooms, rock salt, lentils, and more! The metal casts the negative space of whatever you're pouring over, resulting in one of a kind organic-shaped pieces to use in your work. The process is immensely fun because you never know what you'll get from each pour! And it's immensely economical as well, since it recycles your silver scrap metal and any results you don't like can always be melted again.
Beginners welcome. Experienced broom-casters can use our setup for a work day.
Supplies: Materials are not included with registration. Bring your own scrap or purchase some from the studio at scrap metal prices. Bench scrap only please, no old jewelry.

Surface Design: Transfers, Decals, & Gold Luster

Learn how to create your own silkscreens and transfers using slip and/or underglazes on Day 1. On Day 2, work with previously glazed pieces to explore adding water-slide decals and gold luster.

Silver Rings with Faceted Stones

Ready to set sparkly faceted gemstones into rings? We will take round faceted stones, solder on silver tube bezels to silver rings, and then set the stones. For oval shapes and other odd shaped faceted stones, we will make a step bezel from silver, solder the bezel to ring and set stones. We can do single stones to multiple stones rings. Students are encouraged to bring gemstones they have and any silver to make rings.
Bench Time: 1 Bench Time is included with your registration.

Turkey Wing Broom-making

Explore the construction of a classic hand broom—the turkey-wing! Create simple bundle whisk brooms using natural broom corn before moving on to learning how to tension for tying with a tumble spool. Learn different methods to complete the winding and finish stitches to give the broom strength. You’ll leave class with two or more brooms of your choice of style and color.
