Keumboo
Saturday, April 4, 2026 | 10A - 4P | One-day workshop | $175
Keumboo is an ancient Korean art of applying thin gold sheet or gold fill onto silver and fusing the gold to silver. It is a way of adding color and gold at a lower cost to silver than to use gold sheet and yet it adds to the value of jewelry. We will be using pure 24kt gold foil and bonding it onto silver sheet, using a hotplate and burnishers to press the gold into the silver using heat and pressure.
Supplies: Cost of materials $40-100, payable to instructor.

Enamel Basics
Sunday, June 13, 2026 | 10A - 4P | One-day workshop | $175
Enameling is an old art of using finely crushed glass powder to add color to copper or fine silver sheet. You’ll use a kiln or a torch to heat up the fine glass dust so that it melts into a smooth, glossy surface on the metal surface. We will experiment by firing color enamels on copper with a torch.
Supplies: $5-25, payable to instructor. Due to glass powder, it is recommended that you bring your own respirator, a N95 mask or surgical mask to avoid inhaling glass powder.

Jewelers’ Choice!
Saturday, June 27, 2026 | 10A - 4P | One-day workshop | $175
What do you want to learn next in the metals studio? In this special one-day workshop, the topic is decided by popular vote. Review the project options below and cast your vote in advance using the form. The option with the most votes becomes the focus of the class.
Click here to vote! Voting closes June 1, 2026!
Workshop Options:
Hinged Bracelets
Learn to fabricate a functional hinged clasp while exploring basic hinge construction. Students will create both unsoldered and soldered three-knuckle hinges, then use them to build a hinged bracelet closure. Leather or wide chain will form the bracelet band, while brass, silver, and copper tubing will be used to construct the hinge components.
Foldforming & Anticlastic Raising
Explore dynamic ways of forming metal into expressive three-dimensional shapes. Using techniques that feel a bit like “metal origami,” students will fold, hammer, twist, and shape sheet metal to create sculptural forms and textures. We’ll also experiment with anticlastic raising using specialized stakes and hammers to produce flowing curves, tubular forms, and ribbon-like shapes. This is a very physical, hammer-heavy workshop—ear protection is recommended.
A Marriage of Metals
Discover techniques for adding pattern and color by combining different metals. Students will experiment with mock inlay (rolling soldered wire or sheet into heavy sheet metal), solder inlay to create dot patterns or contrasting color, and twisted-wire laminations that produce wood-grain-like patterns when rolled out. Metals may include copper, brass, bronze, nickel, and silver.
Once voting closes on June 13, 2026, the winning topic will be announced and the workshop will focus entirely on that technique. Join us for a day of learning, experimentation, and studio camaraderie—guided by what jewelers want to explore most!
Prerequisite: Prior experience with one of the Welcome to the Studio classes or equivalent is recommended.
Supplies: $10 - 50, payable to instructor.
